Leading Industry Standards

Labgems adhered to the two leading industry standards: GIA and GemGuide.

GIA

The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) is a non-profit institution based in Carlsbad, California and is considered the most prestigious professional gemology school in the world.

GIA & LABGEMS

The GIA is dedicated to research and education in the field of gemology. Founded in 1931, GIA’s mission is to protect both buyers and sellers of gemstones by setting and maintaining the high standards used to evaluate gem quality. They do this through research, identification, grading services, and various educational programs that extend beyond the confines of their campus. They are an unmatched resource of gem and jewelry information for the trade, the public, and the media.

In 1953, the GIA developed its International Diamond Grading System and the “four Cs” (cut, clarity, color and carat weight) as standard to compare and evaluate the quality of diamonds and gemstones.

Since their founding, they have been on the cutting edge of gemological research and continue to innovate, learn, and teach advanced new methods. As technology marches on, new gemstone sources and types, as well as treatment processes and artificial gemstone creation, appear. This means that the public relies on the GIA, its graduates, and alumni to continue to lead in identification and quality assurance. By staying on top of the most recent breakthroughs in the industry, they continue to offer deeper insight to aficionados all around the globe.

The professional evaluators at Labgems have all earned their diplomas from GIA. The diploma program includes the profound scientific and technical aspects of identifying, grading, and evaluating diamonds and colored gemstones, offering all the core knowledge needed to succeed in the jewelry industry. Alumni are recognized worldwide, and their diplomas are marks of expertise.

GemGuide

GemGuide is the industry standard for gemstone pricing and market information.

GemGuide & LabGems

For over 40 years, GemGuide has provided a reliable benchmark for researching wholesale gemstone prices and trends. They deliver reliable measurements for independent, market-driven, accurate wholesale pricing and publish bimonthly, including additional online pricing updates when market volatility creates unexpected changes.

GemGuide dates back to 1982 when Richard Drucker introduced a colored gemstone pricing guide to the industry. Wholesale diamond prices were added to the publication in 1985, making it the most comprehensive pricing guide available.

The publication is recognized as the industry leader for gem pricing and market information. It continues to be used for valuation and information in more than 40 countries, even acting as a reference in legal matters requiring a valuation. Gemworld, the company that publishes  GemGuide, has had multiple staff members serve as expert witnesses and consultants in legal pricing cases.

Gemworld has developed many educational courses and workshop, which are taught in several countries worldwide. They have also hosted five gemological conferences that have drawn speakers and attendees from all over the world.

Labgems uses the GemGuide pricing and market information for their valuations, with only the finest of industry standards.
